My sweet baby

You all know how much I love my dogs from all the pictures and funny videos I post of them. But this post contains sad pictures, for Ladybug is back in liver failure. As you may recall from the posts two years ago, she went into liver failure and almost died. A biopsy revealed copper build up in her liver leading to sclerosis. No, we had not been feeding her pennies...or alcohol. Apparently copper is in all foods because of it's abundance in the soil. Most of our livers process the copper out. Not Ladybug's. The Vet said in the February of 2009 that she wouldn't make it to her 5th birthday. We prayed and prayed, and God answered. She made it to her 5th birthday and then her 6th. Now she is only two months away from turning 7. But the Vet says she won't survive a week.

Her belly is super bloated from fluids that the liver isn't processing right. She is weak and dehydrated. Fluid builds up in her belly instead of hydrating her body.

She looks pregnant, sad, and miserable. I took her in two weeks ago, thinking they'd put her down. I can't stand to see her suffer. As soon as I opened the vet office doors, I burst into tears. But to my great relief, the Vet said it wasn't time. She isn't in pain, although she is uncomfortable. He said I have maybe another week with her. When she stops eating and drinking, she'll deteriorate fast and it will be obvious that it's time. Until then, he said I could give her as many last meals as she wants. So I have. She loves a little strawberry yogurt on her dog food.

If she were twelve or fourteen years old, this would be so much easier. But six is too young to die! Below is a poor quality video from several years ago when she was alert and healthy. I want her back like this—notice her toys nearby. She loves her toys!

My brother-in-law thinks it's dumb to ask for prayer for pets. But God cares about what we care about. He even says in Proverbs that people who regard the lives of their animals are blessed. So, I continue to pray for my Ladybug and ask anyone who's willing, please pray for her too. There is power in unified prayer!

Tammy, I am so sorry to hear about your sweet puppy...Barbara and I went through this last year with our Sharpei...he was only five years old when he passed away...as you said that's too young. And yes, we do pray for our pets....God definitely cares about us and our pets. We will pray for her and you and Dan.
