My baby has been in ICU for 5 days now for liver failure. The vet is not sure what caused Ladybug's liver to start shutting down, but she turned really yellow and became deathly ill. They can't find any tumors or blockages. That dog eats anything, so she could have eaten something months ago that damaged the liver and it has just taken a while for the liver to start shutting down. And after 5 days of IV's and antibiotics, she is no better and no worse. At some point, we have to let nature take it's course. They could do an exploratory surgery and biopsy of the liver, but that might not even tell them anything they don't already know. Plus, she's struggling to get better, so we don't want to add the trauma of an exploratory surgery. The vet is removing the IV's today and if she keeps water and food down, I can bring her home Wednesday night. I am praying God heals her and that she lives. I love that dog and this is heartbreaking.
A lot of folks think it is silly to care so deeply for a dog, to pray for them, and to spend a lot of money on pets, but she's a member of our family, so I think prayer is appropriate. At least I've refrained from calling my Church's prayer chain.
Ladybug is an American Cocker who will be 5 years old on April 5th. "Please heal her, Lord!"

I'm with you here. My "Paco" has been gone now 4 years in June. He was like my first born child in many ways. I brought him home from "death row" at the Maui Humane Society, and he was with me, sleeping in our bed, napping with me daily etc for 14 years.
When he started peeing around the house for no reason and couldn't see me very well, and the vet said he had diabetes and for $150 a month the medicine would help, etc., I finally had to make THAT decision. I let him go. I probably could have carried him around (he was having a hard time jumping on the couch) and I could have continued to clean up his messes (the vet said he had dementia) and given him the medicine, but it was time.
It was maybe the worst day of my life and it still pains me to think of it.
So, all that to say, be wise, do what is best for the dog, but most important, seek God's wisdom in this. You bet it's ok to pray for her. She will be with you one day in Heaven, I believe that with all my heart and I will see ol' Paco too! Hope all goes well with your decision making.
I'm sorry to hear that, Tammy. She's a sweet, sweet girl and I pray she gets better soon. Don't forget that God cares for every one of His creatures and definitely cares about what's important to you.
Barbara and I have prayed and agreed that your ladybug is healed.

Amen, Ernie! Lots of people are praying. Ladybug's fever has broken but she is still throwing up. She is recovering, though, I believe it. I am trying to have full faith. She's just a silly little dog, but I love her.
Thanks for all well wishes and prayers, everyone!
